In the Hawaiian language, “ke ala pono” literally translates to “the path to righteousness,” or colloquially to “do the right thing.” Our company prides itself in its ethical, culturally sensitive approach and high standards of scientific archaeological research, done right the first time.
Keala Pono is a minority and woman-owned small business that is locally owned and operated by Windy Keala McElroy, PhD. We are certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) by the Hawai’i Department of Transportation.
Our company employs native Hawaiians and Hawaiʻi-raised professionals. We have branches on O‘ahu, Moloka‘i, and Hawai‘i Island, and are available to work throughout Hawai‘i and the Pacific. We have a permanent staff of 15, including project managers, archaeologists, ethnographers, Hawaiian language and culture specialists, archival researchers, a GIS specialist, and an administrative assistant.
Dr. McElroy was born and raised in Hawai’i and recieved her BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. She has extensive experience in archaeological fieldwork, laboratory work, and report writing. Dr. McElroy has a strong personal interest in the preservation and long-term stewardship of cultural resources, and emphasizes community outreach and training.
