Leischene Calingangan was born and grew up most of her childhood on the island of Hawai`i. Another part of her childhood was spent in the Philippines. She moved to Oregon for her first year of University and that is where she found her interest in Hawaii and it's culture. Soon after, Lei moved back to Hawai`i to the Island of O'ahu. She received a B.A. in Anthropology and a Minor in Philippine language and culture at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa. With an interest in Hawaiian Archaeology, Lei has interned at the Bishop Museum and participated in the University of Hawai'i Kupopolo Heiau field school. Since moving back to Hawai'i island, Lei has been very involved with the community, environmentally as well as culturally and socially.
